  1. General Questions

1.0 A question to the honored user:
Which question do you miss here?
Minkowsky is still quite young. Hence it is not clear what question will be frequently ask. Therefore don't hesitate and mail your questions to minkowsky@r-goetz.de.

    1.1 How expensive is Minkowsky?
Minkowsky is for free. It is Open Source Software and as such it won't make much sense to ask for money for it.

1.2 What is the license of Minkowsky? What is the GPL?
Minkowsky is Open Source Software and licensed under the GPL (though I, Rüdiger Goetz holding still the Copyright (I can't give it away accoriding to German law)). The GPL allows you to copy Minkowsky as long you preserve this license. For details see the file COPYING which must be part of the Minkowsky distribution or go to http://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html#GPL.

1.3 How do I start Minkowsky?
Two ways are possible. Either by type minkowsky into a shell in a terminal window. or by clicking on an icon in your window managers menus or panel (or what ever). However, this requires that your system administrator installed something like that.

1.4 Minkowsky requires me to type in a Username and a password
Yes that true. Minkowsky needs to know who is working with it. Otherwise he might deliver you not with your calendar but your neighbors. Furthermore with known who you are he can't protect private appointment from being viewed by other users. Therefore it is advisable to set a password in the User preferences. By default the password is empty.
BTW: Minkowsky tries to guess who you are. (What Minkowsky does is nothing more but reading the USER environment variable_

    1.5 I can't login with my username/password
Minkowsky has its own user management. Therefore username and password may differ from the systems username and password. Ask your Minkowsky or system administrator for your Minkowsky username. The password is empty unless you set it in the User preferences. 1.6 My name is sometime displayed as "Joe Smith" but sometime only as "smith"
Minkowsky uses the username to identify a user. The username must not contain whitespace. However, Minkowsky has a long or full name assigned to each username. This username is used at any place which offers enough space.

1.7 Why can't I use braces in text fields
Braces are used internally by Minkowsky. Therefore brace either suppressed or are replaced.
